Homecoming!
Hopefully many of our previous Falcons will fly home for this great weekend.  Those who are here continue to shine with spirit and enthusiasm.  The games, rallies, parade, and dance are all part of a traditional celebration.

What makes our homecoming special is that every school at the Tracy Learning Center is a part of the events.  They all have a week of spirit and they all get the experience of building a float.  The theme this year is a great one for every age level.  I know time goes into making a float and lots of work goes into organizing a parade, but I think it is worth it.

As we parade down the street Friday afternoon, we all show our pride and enthusiasm for all the wonderful things that have happened, are happening and will happen for our students at the Tracy Learning Center.  Thank you for believing in us and being a part of our success.

Misc. Announcements

Vehicle Drop Off
I was just approached by our traffic guard who was very upset and shaken up. She said late parents continue to pull over on Holly and drop off their kids risking serious injuries to these students. She was very upset especially due to the recent carline accident where a student was just killed because a parent dropped her child off in this same unsafe manner in Byron, Ca. Please slow down and take an extra moment to follow carline rules and keep your children safe!

Gold PCS
Golden Highlights:
Homecoming was a huge success! The Bug's Life float turned out wonderful!  Each class enjoyed making antennas and coloring insects to go on the float. Students also  had an awesome time participating in Spirit Week. We loved seeing the students' creativity as they dressed up in the different themes.

Did you know that October is Anti-Bullying month? The theme is "You are not alone-I can help!"  Students have been discussing this in class and making posters to hang up around the school. Congratulations to Carrie W. in P7 and Andie N. in P8. Their posters were picked to be entered into Tracy's Anti-Bullying contest. If you would like more information about anti-bullying a great website is www.stopbullying.gov.

The first Box Tops Contest has officially closed. The winning classroom will be receive a treat. We will continue to collect box tops in class. Each box top in worth 10¢ for our school.

Reminders:
The first day of Fall was Sunday, September 22nd. The mornings are starting to get colder, be sure to send your student with a jacket! Please put your child's name inside the jacket.

Sapphire PCS
The Sapphire Team had a very “spirited” week!
We had so many students wearing spirit wear every day, it was awesome!

Team Sapphire picked the student representatives for leadership and they have had their first meeting already. The following students are on Sapphire leadership team:
President: Crystal Conner    Vice-President: Sydney Skaggs    Secretary: Komal Khehra    Treasurer: Charles Hearn
Executive Officers for room 6:  Dominic Galang and Ella Delucchi       Executive Officers for Room 1: Theodore Nguyen, Melanie Yanke and Nora Coutts.  We all applaud their efforts and the service that they are undertaking.

Thank you to all the many parents who donated time and supplies to making our homecoming float a success!!

Please make sure that you layer the clothing your child wears each day to school, as our mornings are getting chilly.
Did you know that Study club is every day of the week, except Wednesday; this is a great place for your child to come and get homework completed with a teachers help.

PCS ART
This week in Art:  The K/1s finished their Crazy Bug designs and began an Apple project for Fall.  They learned  how to trace templates,  mix two primary colors to make a secondary color, and to paint neatly. The 4th grade Multicultural Art classes began making Rainsticks from Peru.  They are made from paper towel tubes and toothpicks….lots of toothpicks!
DCS 5th/6th
There was incredible creativity this week from students who came dressed for each of our spirit week days. It is fun to see how children decide to interpret each theme with personal flair and style.

SWO (School Wide Outcomes):
This week students discussed the meaning of cooperative collaboration. They identified some group activities that require effective cooperation. Activities like practicing an instrument to prepare for a group performance, passing the baton during a relay race, sharing supplies with classmates, or performing a role in a dance or play are great examples that can be used for the scrapbook.

Rodieck's Roost:
It has come to our attention that some students would benefit from an optional lunchtime study hall. We are looking for parent volunteers interested in supervising or tutoring students between 11:45 AM and 12:30 PM. Please contact Ms. Rodieck if you are available and interested in helping us with this.

TLC Weekly Newsletter - Week of the September 16th

Charter Chatter
A weekly newsletter written to parents of the Tracy Learning Center

Sept. 20, 2013                                                                                         Vol. 7 No. 7

Virginia Stewart

Recently, we received notice from the state that our students in all three schools did very well on the state tests last spring.

Our Primary students are in the top 10% of the state with their test results.  Their collective score is 926 out of 1000.  There are very few schools who score in the 900s.  Primary expects to reach at least 900 and does each year.  We are very proud of the fundamental educational base we provide for our young students.

Discovery scored 828 this school year.  They are some of the few schools in the area that reach 800 for this grade level.  While they are pleased with the score because it is over the state target, DCS knows there are areas for improvement.   Students in grades 5 through 8 seem to perform better in Language arts than in math.

MHS hit an all time high.  They are the highest scoring high school in the county and surpassed all three high schools in Tracy.  The staff was delighted when they heard that our school was 799.  They just wished they had gotten one more point to be at 800!
In the future, the state will be changing the tests to reflect a new focus in education, that of common core standards.  Core standards are focusing more on student thinking,
problem solving and analysis.

We, as the Tracy Learning Center are pleased with the change of focus since we believe that has been our emphasis all along.  It is important to us that students learn, how to think, how to problem solve, and how to apply information.  Schools that simply focus on the current kinds of tests will have a challenge to adapt to the new changes.  We welcome the new emphasis.

Thank you to all the many parents that have responded to our call for help on the Sapphire float; your generosity has made our float endeavor a huge success!!! We have ALL the supplies that we need and more.  We also so appreciate the parents that have been able to help us by making  decorations from home and also those  that were there to help us on Wednesday.
Can you believe that Homecoming is only a week away… the students and teachers are getting very excited; each class will be choosing three students to ride on our float.   We would like to have as many students from the Sapphire school as possible show our school spirit and walk behind the float in the parade on September 27.  We are requesting that if you allow your child to walk with us that you remain at the parade the whole time so that you can be there to pick them up immediately when it ends.

Students will be dressed in blue as the little birds to walk behind the float. We would love all the kids to have a blue boa to wear for feathers if at all possible. Feel free to get as creative as you like as far as your student’s bird costume goes, but it should be blue! Please no Angry Birds!

DCS 5th/6th

School should be a place for children to acquire knowledge, discover an interest in learning, and build interpersonal skills. As a community we are also interested in maintaining a safe environment. We feel that proper adult supervision is critical to providing safety to our students. We are concerned that a few students are arriving to campus before 7:30AM. Our campus is not properly supervised before that time. Please help us keep the children safe by bringing your children to school no earlier than 7:30AM.

SWO (School Wide Outcomes):
SWO season has begun! This week students and parents attended an informational meeting about the project. It was wonderful to see some of the sixth grade students eagerly and proudly share their scrapbooks from the previous year.
