Recently, we
received notice from the state that our students in all three schools did very
well on the state tests last spring.
Our Primary
students are in the top 10% of the state with their test results. Their collective score is 926 out of
1000. There are very few schools who
score in the 900s. Primary expects to
reach at least 900 and does each year.
We are very proud of the fundamental educational base we provide for our
young students.
Discovery
scored 828 this school year. They are
some of the few schools in the area that reach 800 for this grade level. While they are pleased with the score because
it is over the state target, DCS knows there are areas for improvement. Students in grades 5 through 8 seem to
perform better in Language arts than in math.
MHS hit an
all time high. They are the highest
scoring high school in the county and surpassed all three high schools in
Tracy. The staff was delighted when they
heard that our school was 799. They just
wished they had gotten one more point to be at 800!
In the
future, the state will be changing the tests to reflect a new focus in
education, that of common core standards.
Core standards are focusing more on student thinking,
problem
solving and analysis.
We, as the
Tracy Learning Center are pleased with the change of focus since we believe
that has been our emphasis all along. It
is important to us that students learn, how to think, how to problem solve, and
how to apply information. Schools that
simply focus on the current kinds of tests will have a challenge to adapt to
the new changes. We welcome the new
emphasis.

Anti –Bullying
Seminar
Last week, several of our TLC
students were involved with a city-wide empowering initiative for our students
throughout Tracy. The Anti-Bullying initiative included 115 student
leaders from Tracy Learning Center, Tracy Unified School District,
and Jefferson School District, not to mention the school advisers representing
leadership, conflict resolution, class teachers, & administration who
participated as facilitators. All 5 High schools in Tracy (Kimball,
Millennium, Stein, Tracy, & West) were involved. The potential is for
over 21,000 students in Tracy to benefit as the 115 students implement
protocols to produce a kinder, more tolerant, and safer environment at their
prospective schools. October has been proclomated as an Anti-bullying
Month. Thank you to the following students from TLC who attended the training
and we look forward to the exciting ideas and activities planned through
their leadership:

Student’s had an awesome time
celebrating their 928 API score at Jump for Joy!
Did you know that Primary Gold has a
student leadership team? We are so impressed at how many great ideas the
student leadership team has thought of already!! The 4th grade students from our leadership
team attended the City of Tracy’s Anti-Bullying Conference. They were able to
share what they learned with the other students in leadership and all the
students in leadership presented the information to all students’ in Primary
Gold. PCS Gold students are invited to make a poster for Tracy’s Anti-Bullying
Poster Contest. The theme of the contest this year is “You are not alone- I can
help!” All posters are due on Wednesday, September 25th!

Sapphire PCS
The Sapphire Team had a fantastic week!
Thank you to all the many parents that have responded to our
call for help on the Sapphire float; your generosity has made our float
endeavor a huge success!!! We have ALL
the supplies that we need and more. We also so appreciate the parents that have
been able to help us by making
decorations from home and also those
that were there to help us on Wednesday.
Can you believe that Homecoming is only a week away… the
students and teachers are getting very excited; each class will be choosing
three students to ride on our float. We
would like to have as many students from the Sapphire school as possible show
our school spirit and walk behind the float in the parade on September 27. We are requesting that if you allow your
child to walk with us that you remain at the parade the whole time so that you
can be there to pick them up immediately when it ends.
Students will be dressed in blue as the little birds to walk
behind the float. We would love all the kids to have a blue boa to wear for
feathers if at all possible. Feel free to get as creative as you like as far as
your student’s bird costume goes, but it should be blue! Please no Angry Birds!
Next week September 23 -27 will be our SPIRIT WEEK; the
students will be able to wear different spirit wear all week: here all the following special days…..
Monday- Stripes Day
Tuesday – Sports Day
Wednesday – Work Out Day
Thursday – Black/Gold Day
Friday – Sapphire Blue Day
The Sapphire School has the BEST parents and students; we
hope that you are all able to enjoy the Homecoming festivities, (don’t forget
the football game). Remember school
dismissal is at 2:30 on Friday, September 27.
PCS ART
This Week In Art: The
K/1’s are learning how to use simple shapes to draw creepy looking bugs. After cutting them out, they are glued
to the colorful watercolor backgrounds from last week. The 2/3 Art & Literature classes
heard the story “Big Fat Hen” by Keith Baker. They drew their own hens with oil
pastels and then learned how to create soft, blended backgrounds with chalk
pastels. 4th Grade
Multicultural Art completed their Mola’s from Panama and have moved onto their
new country – Peru!
PCS PE
We want to recognize some students that earned
shoe tokens this week for following our PE motto "Respect and
Responsibility" P6 Kianna Farfan, P1 Tre Zapien, and P8 James
Costa.
The students have been working hard on taking pride in their fitness this week. Don't forget to check out our Facebook page for weekly pictures and updates of what went on during PE. http://www.facebook.com/mskvpehealth

DCS 5th/6th
School
should be a place for children to acquire knowledge, discover an interest in
learning, and build interpersonal skills. As a community we are also interested
in maintaining a safe environment. We feel that proper adult supervision is
critical to providing safety to our students. We are concerned that a few
students are arriving to campus before 7:30AM. Our campus is not properly
supervised before that time. Please help us keep the children safe by bringing
your children to school no earlier than 7:30AM.
SWO
(School Wide Outcomes):
SWO
season has begun! This week students and parents attended an informational
meeting about the project. It was wonderful to see some of the sixth grade students
eagerly and proudly share their scrapbooks from the previous year. If you have
questions regarding the project please direct them to your child's homeroom
teacher so we can offer the clarification necessary for success.
